4-Part Workshop Series: Multi-Solving Capital Projects: Building Sustainability, Climate Resilience, and Equity Outcomes into Procurement
Communities throughout Canada are grappling with aging infrastructure, a housing crisis, and rising climate change risks — all driving an urgent need for comprehensive capital infrastructure investment, even as they're tasked with accommodating unprecedented growth.
These challenges also present an opportunity. According to FCMi, every $1 Billion invested by Canadian communities in infrastructure generates $1.6B in economic growth and 18,000 jobs. Municipalities can leverage their investment power to deliver what the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) calls "multi-solving" capital projects — an approach echoed by federal and provincial funders seeking "Best Value" for Canadians. This concept has shifted over the last 60 years from a narrow focus on technical compliance and lowest cost to a broader approach supporting community socio-economic and environmental outcomes such as equity, carbon reductions, climate resilience, and biodiversity.
While commonly supported in principle and sometimes embedded in municipal procurement bylaws, capital infrastructure delivery departments can feel disconnected from, or unsure how to implement, these broader policy directions on their next project.
The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and CRI are offering a 4-part workshop series* (FREE for public sector / municipalities) to introduce decision-support resources and tools to help communities procure higher-performing, "multi-solving" capital projects that advance strategic community objectives.

Join Live or Online Independently. Joining partway through the series – no problem!
To allow maximum flexibility for busy staff, the content is presented over a series of four sessions. The four sessions are designed as a series and ideally can all be completed in sequence, but sessions can also be viewed independently online after the fact for those that missed one or who are joining the live series partway through. At the end of the workshop series, participants will receive a Procurement Checklist that offers them a roadmap of considerations for integrating sustainability, climate resilience, and equity into their capital project procurement.
FREE for Public Sector, Indigenous, and Non-Profit organizations
Private Sector free for session 1, $75 for sessions 2-4
