Hala Al-Shooha, MSc, BSc

Hala Al-Shooha is a Senior Training Specialist (Climate Resilience) with the Climate Risk Institute. She is currently a PhD Candidate in Environmental Planning at the University of Waterloo, where she is also completing an Interdisciplinary Graduate Diploma in Climate Change and participating in the university’s Collaborative Water Program. Hala holds an MSc in Environmental Spatial Planning, where she specialized in urban climate change vulnerability assessments, and a BSc in Architecture.
With over nine years of international experience, Hala has contributed to advancing the green built environment through environmental planning, urban analysis, and the application of nature-based solutions. She has worked with international agencies to implement projects and deliver capacity-building programs focused on climate action, inclusive adaptation, and environmental governance. Her approach is area-based, people-centered, context-specific, and emphasizes intersectoral collaboration. In post-conflict settings across the MENA region, Hala has served as a technical advisor and consultant, supporting resilience programs and conducting climate impact assessments.
Hala lives in Oakville with her husband and their cat, enjoying nature and exploring local hiking trails. In her free time, she expresses her creativity through traditional textile art and embroidery, and nurtures her curiosity by delving into the historical urban planning.
