Presented by:

  • Deborah Harford (Executive Director, ACT, Simon Fraser University)
  • James Lane (Manager, Natural Heritage and Forestry, Regional Municipality of York)

Participants in the webinar gained an understanding of the principles and practice of integrating climate change mitigation and adaptation in municipal operations and planning. Experts and practitioners from Simon Fraser University and the Regional Municipality of York outlined their approaches to low-carbon resilience (LCR). LCR is an approach that focuses on integrating climate change strategies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) and reduce vulnerability to climate change impacts (adaptation). We currently have a window of opportunity to plan implementation of LCR via coordinated actions, policies, pricing and planning approaches. Doing so will create win-wins and save valuable time and financial resources that may otherwise be lost due to missed opportunities or the result of building in future vulnerability.
